Gary Billger Obituary

Gary Douglas Billger, age 70 of Celina, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at the St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima with his children, grandchildren, and wife by his side. He was born on November 2, 1950 in Celina, Ohio to the late Monte and June Maxine “June Bug” (Yaney) Billger. On April 28, 1995, he married Carol Maier, who survives, living in Celina. He is also survived by his four children: Adam Billger of Lima, Bryan (Kelly) Billger of KY, Shawn (Ashley) Billger of Celina, Angela Brunell of MN, three step children Mark Maier, Sheryl Hertenstein, Lisa Robbins, five grandchildren, Drew Billger, Hannah (Grant) Weiss, Jacqueline (Billie) Spinelli, Chloe May Billger, Alan Bruce, step grandchildren, Sam Maier, Nikki Maurer, Eric Hertenstein, Stacy Rice, Rachel Hertenstien, Isaac Robbins, Sydney Robbins, fifteen great grandchildren, various cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marilyn Jean Billger and his grandson Tre Billger.
Gary graduated from Celina High School with the Class of 1968. Then on January 21, 1970 he enlisted in the United States Army to serve his country in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army as a Drill Sergeant in 1974. He retired from the Maintenance Department at Red Gold in Geneva, Indiana, after fourteen years of service. He was a member of the Celina Church of the Nazarene.
He loved going fishing and enjoyed catching cleaning, and giving away his fish to people and to the food pantry. He had a special way of cleaning his fish so it didn’t taste fishy and had no bones. He loved traveling and being with his family. He was a very talkative person and loved The Lord, so he always was talking to people at the lake where he was fishing and leading them through the sinner’s prayer if they weren’t saved, of course he always asked first. He will be missed very much by his wife Carol, his children, and his grandchildren.
Private family funeral services will be held on Friday, January 22, 2021 at the Lehman-Dzendzel Funeral Home in Celina, with Rev. Chris Riffle officiating. Burial will follow in the Live Oaks Cemetery in Wabash, Ohio, with Military Honors provided by the Celina American Legion Post #210 and the Celina V. F. W. Post # 5713.
