Joyce Arlene Smelser, age 86, of Celina, Ohio passed away at 1:49 p.m. on Thursday June 16, 2016 at the Parkview North Hospital in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. She was born on April 29, 1930 in Van Wert County Ohio to the late Walter & Mildred (Everett) Kiehl. On Aug. 28, 1955 she married David Smelser, who died Nov. 3, 1987. Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law Kent & Jill Smelser of Van Wert, Jeff Smelser of Celina, four grandchildren Kyle, Katie & Kit Fortescue, Morgan and her fiancé Jacob Triplett and Michael. Joyce graduated from Wren High School and received her B. S. in Education from the Bowling Green University. She was a 1st grade teacher in Crestview for eight years and was a substitute teacher at the City of Celina Public Schools for 34 years. Joyce was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church in Celina and a member of the Woman's University Club of Celina. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday June 21, 2016 at the Lehman-Dzendzel Funeral Home in Celina, with Rev. James Ritcher officiating. Burial will follow in Mercer Memory Gardens in Celina. Friends may call from 5 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday June 20, 2016 and Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. -10:30 a.m. at the Lehman-Dzendzel Funeral Home.
