Obituary

Bernard G. "Barney" Baker, 95 of Celina, Ohio passed away peacefully on Monday, July 20, 2026 at the Wayne Hospital in Greenville, Ohio. He was born the son of the late James and Rosa (Keller) Baker in Columbus, Ohio on April 26, 1931. On May 12, 1956 he married the love of his life for the last seventy years Joan (Brown) Baker, who survives residing at their residence in Celina.

He is also survived by; his son Mark (Kim) Baker, his daughter Elizabeth (Tracy) Fogt both of Celina, six grandchildren Amanda (Dillon) Russell of Spokane, WA, Aarika (Nathan) Hayes of Long Beach, CA, Tyler (Molly) Fogt, Tricia (Adam) Olberding both of Minster, Katie (Kody) Pyle of Springboro, Ryan Baker of Celina and fifteen great grandchildren Audrey, Adrienne, Ethan and Addilyn Russell, Austin Kendall and Marshall Hayes, Jackson, Raygen, Greta and Baker Fogt, Ayden, Adeline, Everett Olberding and Kaelynn Baker.

In addition to his parents Bernard was preceded in death by his son James Baker, two grandsons Trent Fogt, Douglas Baker, his sister Anna Huwer, sister-in-law Virginia Wendel and three brothers-in-law Charles Huwer, Bob Wendel and Thurman Shaffer.

Bernard graduated from the St. Johns High School in Maria Stein with the Class of 1949. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1951 until 1955 Stationed out of Treasure Island in San Francisco, California. He retired in 1993 from Goodyear Rubber Company in St. Marys after forty-three years of service.

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina and held membership at several fraternal organizations; he was a life member of the Celina V. F. W. Post #5713, Celina Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1291, Celina Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1473.

He enjoyed his kids and grandkids, looked forward to watching his grandkids and great grandkids play sports. Loved to take a walk, read a good book and puzzling. He was an avid Celina Bulldog fan, Ohio State Buckeye and Cleveland Browns fan. He was also a former OHSAA Basketball Official for over twenty years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina, with Fr. Robert Muhlenkamp officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Celina, with Military Honors. Bernards funeral services are in the care of the Lehman-Dzendzel Funeral Home in Celina.
